A set of historical images purporting to show a rickshaw driver in Pakistan who undressed in public after receiving a “inflated electricity bill” in July 2024 have reappeared on social media.
The images went viral as national anxiety over the cost of power increased and the government authorized a price increase.
The images have actually been around since 2017 because of stories of a man who took off his clothing to put an end to a protest that was obstructing traffic.
A portion of the Urdu-language description for pictures posted on X on July 4, 2024 said, “The poor rickshaw driver stripped in public when he got an inflated electricity bill.”
