“The dangerous, barbaric conditions that have existed at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for some time” is what ultimately stopped him.
The infamous prison, sometimes called MDC, is making headlines again because of its most recent celebrity inmate. Sean “Diddy” Combs was accused by federal authorities with sex trafficking, racketeering, and providing transportation for prostitution. A New York judge ordered Combs to be detained there last week. He entered a not guilty plea.
When incarcerated, well-known criminals like Mr. Combs occasionally receive extra protection; the music mogul is reportedly being held in a part of MDC Brooklyn for it.
Local media sources state that Mr. Combs is sharing a dorm-style room with cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried. Mr. Bankman-Fried had controlled a billion-dollar corporation until being found guilty on several charges of fraud in March.
The two are merely the most recent in a long line of well-known figures to have entered the facility because it is the only federal jail in New York City, where numerous high-profile cases are handled. Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of Jeffrey Epstein, and rapper R Kelly are on that list.
