Grief is a personal experience. For some people, it manifests itself in outward ways, such as their eyes, facial expressions, attire, mannerisms, and cautious, concealed grins. For others, it is still unknown, frequently seen in their quiet, in their talks, in the messages they share, or in the way they prepare and consume their food. For days, weeks, months, and sometimes years, it persists. Grief is given substance, weight, and shape on the floor of Karachi’s Canvas Gallery, which held Mohsin Shafi’s most personal and profound recollections, during his exhibition ‘The Anatomy of Becoming’.
“The process of making these pieces slowly crept into my veins, masquerading as longing and nostalgia.”
