RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir stated on Saturday that Pakistan’s diverse political landscape and pluralism will be “well-represented by a unified government of all democratic forces” imbued with national purpose.

Following a meeting of important political leaders in Lahore to discuss government formation, the army commander issued his remarks.

“Elections are not a zero-sum struggle between winning and losing, but rather an exercise in determining the people’s mandate. Political leaders and their employees must put their own interests aside and work together to govern and serve the people, as this is likely the only way to make democracy effective and useful, according to the army commander, as reported by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

He stated that elections and democracy are tools to serve the people of Pakistan, not objectives in themselves.

The COAS thanked the whole Pakistani nation, the caretaker government, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), political parties, and all victorious candidates on the successful completion of the 2024 general elections.

He stated that Pakistanis’ free and unimpeded involvement in exercising their right to vote indicated their commitment to democracy and the rule of law, as established in the Constitution.

“The leadership and personnel of law enforcement agencies deserve our highest praise for creating a safe and secure environment for the electoral process despite overwhelming odds.” National media, civil society, members of civil administration, and the court all played helpful roles in the successful conduct of the largest electoral exercise in national history,” the army chief said.

He stated that now that the people of Pakistan have placed their trust in the Pakistani constitution, it is incumbent on all political parties to reciprocate with political maturity and unity.

“As we move forward from this national milestone, we must reflect on where the country stands today and where our rightful place should be in the comity of nations,” said the COAS, hoping that the elections will bring political and economic stability and serve as a harbinger of peace and prosperity for the country.
