KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has outlined a new formula for the selection committee’s composition following significant changes to the national team’s administration, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the selection committee will now consist of former cricket players Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, coaches for the red-ball and white-ball forms, and the captain of the respective format.
The PCB’s action is in response to the Green Shirts’ appalling performance and subsequent exclusion from the T20 World Cup 2024, which has forced the board, chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, to alter the team’s administration.
The board had announced the day before that former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and bowler Wahab Riaz had been fired from the seven-member selection committee, but Yousuf had been retained.
Razzaq served on the selection committees for both the men’s and women’s teams, while Wahab was a member of the men’s team.
In addition, because of the men’s team’s lack of discipline throughout the previous three tours, the board also removed Riaz and team manager Rana Mansoor from their positions as senior team managers.
According to the sources, Wahab and Razzaq gave unfair favors to some players, and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi only decided to fire the two after the inquiry into the subject was over.
According to the sources, the players who received backing from the duo ended up performing poorly and facing opposition from other members of the selection committee.
