The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is experiencing growing internal strife as Sher Afzal Marwat has called on Shibli Faraz to quit, claiming that only then would the party be liberated from the “qabza mafia.”
His statement was made in response to Omar Ayub, the National Assembly’s Leader of the Opposition, who announced on Thursday that the PTI will be changing its organizational structure.
Marwat, who has been at odds with Shibli Faraz and other party officials, declared, “I demand Shibli Faraz’s resignation from party positions and as leader of the Opposition in Senate.”
The outspoken Marwat also declined to collaborate with Senator Faraz and Omar in May, claiming that they prevented him from meeting the imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan.
Marwat made these comments after the party removed his candidacy for the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly and appointed Sheikh Waqas Akram in his place.
Marwat was removed from the party’s political committees and core following his remarks, per the PTI founder’s orders. He was later given a show-cause notice by the party for going against its policies and code of conduct.
Regarding the party leadership, Marwat stated that there are numerous occasions in which the leadership has fallen short, citing the party’s “bat” emblem and problems with reserved seats as two such instances.
