Umar Ayub’s resignation as Secretary General has been overwhelmingly rejected by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party.
The PTI and its council members are pushing him to rethink his resignation, even though he insists he left of his own volition and after consulting the party’s founder.
In an Islamabad meeting, the PTI and SIC members endorsed a resolution reiterating their joint decision to reject Ayub’s resignation. They urged him to continue leading the party and expressed confidence in his abilities to oversee operations.
The meeting attendees agreed to write a formal letter to the PTI founder asking him to convince Ayub to continue serving as Secretary General.
They emphasized the significance of preserving party cohesion and finding peaceful solutions to any disagreements.
Speaking at the meeting, the leader of the opposition reaffirmed that he had made the decision to quit on a personal level. He explained that he needed time off from party duties due to continuing legal cases and constituency difficulties.
The party members, however, didn’t waver in their position and emphasized how important Ayub is to the PTI’s organizational structure.
