The “kangaroo dance” was one of the dance techniques that Gunn’s performance, which she did in the first breakdancing competition under the moniker Raygun, became viral for.
Online criticism has included claims that Gunn was set up to win the Oceania qualifying event in Sydney last October, and it has questioned the judging that made her qualified.
Australian Olympic officials, meanwhile, have criticized Gunn in a “misleading and bullying” petition that has garnered more than 50,000 signatures.
Gunn urged the media to “stop harassing my family and friends” in a self-shot Instagram video, saying the response to her post was “pretty devastating”.
She remarked, “I just wanted to start by saying thank you to everyone who has supported me. I really appreciate the good vibes, and I’m happy that I was able to make you smile. That’s my hope, anyway.
