The government has decided to immediately revoke the circular that suspended Pakistani passports of asylum applicants overseas, marking a significant shift in policy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting where this decision was made.
Deputy Prime Minister Dar was briefed on a range of matters pertaining to the well-being of Pakistanis living abroad during the meeting. The decision was made to promptly revoke the circular that suspended Pakistani asylum applicants’ passports overseas.
Dar was also told that passports will be given in 60 days for Pakistanis living abroad.
The issue of guaranteeing the prompt passport issuing to Pakistanis residing overseas was also discussed during the meeting.Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Interior Secretary, DG of Immigration and Passport, and the Foreign Secretary, attended the meeting.
This move is anticipated to give Pakistani asylum seekers much-needed respite and expedite the passport issuance procedure for Pakistanis living abroad, demonstrating the government’s dedication to resolving their issues.
