SHC judge reprimands LEAs in prominent businessman kidnapping case

"There is no point in spending billions of rupees on law enforcement agencies," observes Justice Kausar Sultana

During a case involving the recovery of industrialist Zulfiqar Ahmed, who was abducted from Karachi a few days earlier, Justice Kausar Sultana of the Sindh High Court (SHC) said that there is “no point in spending billions of rupees on law enforcement agencies” in Karachi.

On July 23, the industrialist and his companion Qaiser were kidnapped from Karachi’s Mauripur Road. Eight men in masked cars took them by force and threatened to shoot them. But soon after, Qaiser was set free.

After hearing a plea for the industrialist’s recovery from his wife Amber Zulfiqar, Justice Kausar Sultana stated that it was preferable that the nation have no security forces in place given the current situation.”Our children are flying abroad, leaving their country as their lives here are at risk…parents remain upset for the life of their children lest someone take his/her life for a mobile phone,” she stated.

During the case hearing today, the judge emphasized the state of law and order in the megacity by pointing out that residents had hired private security guards and closed their bank accounts domestically. The judge also questioned the police official about who was more powerful, the criminals or the law enforcement agency.

The SHC judge issued a warning, saying that should the industrialist or anybody else from his workplace be abducted once more, a case would be brought against a station house officer (SHO).
