The judges gave Nicolson, a 28-year-old from the UK, a 100-90 100-90 99-91 score, making him the clear winner.
Nicolson, who has already won ten of his ten fights, went on to criticize Amanda Serrano, the champion of the WBA, WBO, and IBF.
“When she’s ready, I’m ready. The belts are what I want. I’m ready when you’re ready, Amanda; it’s nothing personal,” she remarked.
After the sanctioning organization forbade women fighters from contesting for their belts to go more than three minutes, Serrano forfeited the WBC featherweight title in December.
After defeating Lucy Wildheart to win the interim title, Nicolson squared up against Mahfoud for the vacant title over ten two-minute rounds.
