Snap Inc. cut 1,000 jobs or 16% from its total workforce. Snap Inc. also eliminated hundreds of vacant positions.
This move is part of a larger shift within the technology industry where companies are increasingly relying on AI to perform routine tasks.
Evan Spiegel, CEO of the company, told his staff that it is in a crucial phase. Now, the company wants its teams to be lean and work more quickly.
Artificial Intelligence Replaces Repetitive Tasks
Spiegel stated that employees would use AI to speed up production and reduce the amount of repetitive work. This approach is already being used by small teams, he said.
The teams that use this approach are more productive and efficient with less people.
Snap Faces pressure to become profitable
Snap has now laid off a third of its staff since 2022.
The company had cut 20 percent of its workforce back then. Snap, despite having millions of customers, has had trouble staying profitable.
The Tech Industry follows the same trend
Snap isn’t the only one. This year, several major tech firms have announced job cuts.
Amazon, Meta Block, Pinterest and Atlassian are among the companies that have announced layoffs this year.
Jack Dorsey said recently that AI will change the way companies build and operate.
A Shift Toward Faster, Leaner Companies
Snap has a focus on new ways of working. The company is looking for smaller teams and faster results. AI is the core of this strategy.
