RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that he is amenable to dialogue, but only within the parameters set down by the Constitution.
The PTI founder, who has been detained for almost a year, told reporters in the Adia jail, “I will hold talks while staying within the Constitution.”
The former prime minister made these comments in light of his desire to engage in talks with the military, even asking it to designate a representative for talks.
“We are prepared to speak with the armed forces. During a case hearing earlier this week in the Adiala prison, Khan had stated that the army ought to choose a representative for negotiations. The founder of the erstwhile ruling party, along with a number of other prominent figures, such as Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other employees, are involved in a variety of instances pertaining to the May 9 riots that were started following Khan’s detention in a graft case last year.
Following the riots, there was a widespread crackdown against the PTI. Military institutions, such as the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, were vandalized by rioters.
