Workers and supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rejoiced after the unofficial results of the April 21 by-elections showed that the party had won most national and provincial parliament seats.

The party gained 10 of the 16 seats in the province legislatures and at least two of the five seats in the National Assembly, according to the unofficial and ambiguous results.

One seat each has been gained by the Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, and Sunni Ittehad Council, which are all supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

In the meantime, Adnan Afzal Chattha of the PML-N defeated Fayyaz Chattha of the PTI to win the PP-36 Wazirabad seat.

PTI’s NA results were significantly upset by independent candidate Mubarak Zeb, the brother of the late independent candidate Rehan Zeb.

Zeb also defeated Abid Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami to win the provincial PK-22 seat in Bajaur.

In Qamber Shahdadkot, Sindh, Khursheed Junejo of the PPP defeated Muhammad Ali of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, who only garnered 2763 votes, by 91,581 votes in the NA-196 seat left vacant by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

Following Ali Pervazi Malik of the PML-N’s victory with 60,918 votes, leaving SIC candidate Shehzad Farooq behind, the party retained control of the NA-119 seat in Punjab, which was left vacant by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Farooq received a mere 34,0094 votes.

Additionally, the ruling party triumphed in NA-132 Kasur, where Malik Rasheed Ahmed Khan overcame Sardar Muhammad Hussain Dogar, the SIC candidate. Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, left the position vacant.
