Before the Boston Celtics played the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday, Adam Silver was questioned about the foul call against Caitlin Clark.
Guard Chennedy Carter of the Chicago Sky gave Clark a hip-check on Saturday, igniting a controversy regarding the rookie Indiana Fever player’s treatment that lasted the entire week.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will handle going into the specifics of the call, according to Silver.
“As a fan, obviously, it’s nothing new in basketball that there’s sort of ‘welcome to the league’ moments, especially for heralded rookies,” Silver told Sports. “But of course, I want to see Caitlin treated fairly and appropriately in the league.”
She seemed capable of caring for herself. She is a skilled athlete. Regarding the WNBA dispute, I believe some non-basketball fans may not realize what a phenomenal player she is—winning two Final Fours and being the highest scoring player in college basketball history, to name just a few. I’m excited to follow her further growth in the league.
