The building of US President Donald Trump’s “triumphal arch” in the nation’s capital has been temporarily halted by a federal judge.
The Trump administration had stated that work in Washington might start this week, but US District Judge Tanya Chutkan decided that there should be a 14-day suspension before any work can begin.
The National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) voted 8–4 earlier on Thursday to approve the projected 250-foot (72-meter) arch’s construction.
Opponents claim the arch will obstruct the vista of Arlington National Cemetery, despite Trump appointees on the board claiming it would be an appropriate homage to US history and veterans.

One of the president’s attempts to transform the nation’s capital in his own image is the so-called Arc de Trump, a play on the name of the iconic Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which is intended to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
A White House official told the news, “The White House applauds the National Capital Planning Commission’s decision to fully approve President Trump’s historic vision to build a much needed Triumphal Arch in Washington, DC.”
Due to many lawsuits attempting to halt the project, it is still unclear when the arch’s construction may start.
Trump’s Arch Faces Legal Challenge
The federal court that temporarily stopped construction was denounced by the White House as a “activist district court.”The spokesman stated, “We anticipate the completion of this magnificent Arch and are confident we will be fully vindicated as this litigation proceeds.”
A video representation of the arch with the words “Golden Age of America” etched along one side is also available on a website that the White House posted on social media on Friday.
Trump’s Military Arch Includes Defense Facilities
A video representation of the arch with the words “Golden Age of America” etched along one side is also available on a website that the White House posted on social media on Friday.
“The Military Triumphal Arch” is the name given to the building.
Appliques that resemble the gilded decorations Trump has placed to the Oval Office are scattered throughout the proposed building.
According to the Trump administration, the arch would also serve as a facility for storing military hardware, including drones and snipers.
Veterans Oppose Trump’s Proposed Triumphal Arch
“Veterans in wheelchairs will be chained to the bulldozer, and we will bind ourselves to it,” she stated.
The arch “would lessen the solemn nature of a visit to the cemetery,” according to fellow veteran John Pomeroy, whose parents are buried at Arlington and who served in the Air Force for six years, including during the Vietnam War.
He called Trump’s proposal to put military hardware under the arch “silly” and a “half-baked idea.”
Similar to Wright, Pomeroy threatened to “impede construction workers as much as I can” if they arrived at the site to start working.

“This is a tribute to Donald Trump,” Huffman continued.
Concerns over safety, traffic congestion, and the ecology have led to lawsuits being launched against the proposals. Another point of contention is whether the construction of the arch requires congressional permission.
Trump has suggested a number of development projects for the US capital. This includes the White House, where he is being sued for building a ballroom that is expected to cost $400 million (£300 million).
His efforts to restore a 106-year-old golf course that he has called “trash island” are also facing legal challenges.
