Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of United Kingdom stated that his Government wanted to protect victims from the damage they could suffer due to online abuse. Breakfast reported his statement that victims should not have to search for websites every time someone posts a new picture.
A single report, a single takedown process
According to government data, girls, women and LGBT people are most at risk of being abused for their intimate images. A report from July 2025 revealed that many boys and young men were the victims of financial sexual extortion.
A parliamentary report from May 2025 noted that 2024 saw an increase in the number of reports about sexually explicit pictures. There has recently been much controversy regarding enforcement.
The Prime Minister confirmed that regulators would enforce the new laws by way of fines and other measures.
The announcement follows a dispute between the Government and X at the beginning of this year. In January, Grok users abused its AI to alter images of women.
