The tennis competitions at the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer will take place at this legendary location in Paris.
Tennis will be played on a surface at the Olympics for the first time since Barcelona in 1992.
So, have we learned anything from the French Open about the competitors for the gold medal?
Iga Swiatek is the clear winner of women’s singles.
Since the previous Olympics in 2021, the 23-year-old has won four Grand Slam trophies, three of which have come from Roland Garros’ clay courts.
After defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini to win the French Open for the third time in a row, Swiatek declared, “I love it here.”
“The toughest challenge in this sport” is, as Paolini reportedly informed Swiatek later, and she’s not incorrect.
With that last triumph, the Pole’s winning run at Roland Garros now stands at 21 games.
It also completed a stellar clay-court season for Swiatek, who followed up her victories in Madrid and Rome to become only the second player in history to win the ‘Triple Crown’ in a single calendar year, behind Serena Williams.
This year, Swiatek has not lost an encounter on the surface against anyone, not even her two nearest competitors, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff.
