KARACHI: Karachiites experienced some respite on Monday after suffering through days of intense heatwave thanks to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) confirmation of the return of sea wind.
According to the Met Office, the city is expected to have hot and muggy weather throughout the next 24 hours.
The city’s temperature is predicted to stay between 35°C and 37°C due to the 55% humidity levels and a 27 kilometer per hour sea breeze.
In the meantime, 31.5 °C was the lowest recorded temperature for the previous 24 hours.
The Sindh Health Department announced on Monday that 49 people have died as a result of the recent heat wave.
Abbasi Hospital reported 23 heatstroke deaths over the course of the ten days, Civil Hospital reported 18, and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) reported five.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz stated one day earlier that the monsoon season is expected to start after July 8.
The official’s comments coincided with the PMD’s prediction of “vigorous monsoon activity” in the upper and central regions this week due to the likelihood of heavy monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea into the country’s higher regions starting on July 3.
