After months of impasse over increased US assistance to help Ukraine repel Russia’s invasion, Democrats and Republicans came together.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, expressed his gratitude for the decision, saying it “keeps history on the right track.”
“Democracy and freedom will always have global significance and will never fail as long as America helps to protect them,” he stated.
“The vital US aid bill passed today by the House will keep the war from expanding, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both of our nations to become stronger.”
Legislators also approved a measure containing several foreign policy proposals, including a threat to outlaw the Chinese-owned social media app TikTok, as well as bills to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza and Israel, as well as bills to provide Taiwan and its allies in the Indo-Pacific with security assistance.
