A boat carrying more than 100 people overturned in Nigeria’s north-central Niger State on Wednesday, killing at least 60 people and saving dozens more, according to local officials.
The ship hit a submerged tree stump close to Gausawa hamlet in Borgu Local Government Area on Tuesday morning as it was leaving Tungan Sule in Malale district for a sympathy visit to Dugga.
According to Borgu Local Government Area Chair Abdullahi Baba Ara, the number of casualties is increasing.
Baba Ara told Reuters, “The boat incident has resulted in 60 deaths.” “Ten people have been found in serious condition, and many are still being sought.”
