It “seems negotiations have gone forward” to move the antiques, also called the Elgin Marbles, which were removed from Athens more than 200 years ago and are on exhibit at the British Museum, according to Professor Irene Stamatoudi.
Although No. 10 has stated that the matter is not on the agenda, it happened during the Tuesday meeting between Sir Keir Starmer and his Greek counterpart in Downing Street.
Greek public radio said the topic was raised at the meeting, although Downing Street’s official account of the meeting did not mention it.
The meeting takes place as rumors circulate that negotiations have recently advanced on a deal that would see the monuments relocated to Athens.
