With their unexpected trip to Jamaica, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appear to have ignited new diplomatic discussions.
The Bob Marley: One Love premiere in Jamaica on Tuesday night at the Carib Theatre in Kingston featured a surprise appearance by the royal couple.
Walking hand in hand, Meghan and Harry were beaming.
A video of the duo was posted by The Entertainment Tonight on its official X, previously Twitter profile. In it, they are seen posing with Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who wants to depose King Charles as head of state.
One of the 14 non-UK realms where the King of Britain holds the position of head of state is Jamaica.
The parents of Archie and Lilibet also took pictures with Marlene Malahoo Forte, the Jamaican minister for legal and constitutional issues, who declared last year that her nation would break away from the British monarchy and elect a president of its own in 2024.
It should be noted that the question of whether to sever ties with the British monarchy will be put to a vote by the Jamaican parliament in April.
According to the Mirror, PM Andrew Holness informed Prince William in 2022 that Jamaica was “moving on” and that the island will eventually become a “independent, developed, prosperous country” during his visit to the Caribbean nation.
