Senior Vice-President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz, took aim at her opponents in the election campaign, claiming that they are accountable for their own self-sabotage since her father, Nawaz Sharif, did not remove anyone through a plot.
Speaking at a political event in Nanaka Sahib, Punjab, Maryam addressed a number of accusations made against her party and its leader, who was then leading the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, saying they were plotting against them.
“You shot yourself in the foot, so Nawez didn’t remove you. It’s up to you to ruin your own party,” Maryam remarked.
PTI and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the erstwhile ally of the PML-N, have been grumbling about unfair competition and special treatment for the Nawaz-led party.
Since PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is currently spearheading the party’s election campaign with fiery speeches that frequently poke fun at the PML-N, the verbal sparring between the latter two has intensified in recent days.
Speaking at the rally today, Maryam responded to the claims that party leader Nawaz is a ladla, or blue-eyed kid, by stating, “Yes, Nawaz is a ladla, but he is a ladla of the masses.”
The comments, which don’t specifically mention anyone, appear to be a reference to what PPP leader Bilawal has said on a number of occasions.
has charged that Nawaz and his party are “relying on something other than the people of Pakistan to become prime minister for a fourth time”.
Regarding the aims of her party in the event that they win an election, Maryam stated that the PML-N is not competing with any other political party but rather fighting excessive power bills and skyrocketing inflation.
Remembering how her father was removed from power in 2017, she emphasized that a plot, vote-rigging, and foul play all played a part in the three-time former prime minister’s removal.
“Give Nawaz an opportunity to serve [you] once more,” she continued, bemoaning the party supremo’s constant removal from office.
