Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. Kushner’s involvement in the recent scandal regarding Fifa head Gianni Infantino and an abandoned plan before the sale. How the Buss Family Owned the Lakers I am appreciative to Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff for allowing me to be a part of this chapter. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

Trump’s Greenland Envoy Faces Tough Challenge During Visit to Nuuk US Envoy Jeff Landry Tries to Build Relations in Greenland President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, has started his first official trip to the Arctic island with the goal of improving relations and strengthening communication with local leaders. Landry arrived in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, on Monday and described his visit as a friendly mission focused on listening, learning, and creating stronger connections. He said President Trump encouraged him to visit Greenland and “make friends” with the people there. However, the visit has already created political tension. Many Greenlanders remain uncomfortable with the United States’ growing interest in the territory. Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, once again stated that Greenland is “not for sale” and stressed that Greenlanders have the right to decide their own future. Diplomatic Tensions Continue Between the US and Greenland Landry’s trip comes months after President Donald Trump sparked controversy by suggesting the United States could take control of Greenland by force if necessary. Greenland is a self governing territory connected to Denmark, and the comments created concern among both Danish and Greenlandic officials. Although Landry insists the visit is peaceful and focused on cooperation, some residents have reacted coldly because the trip was not officially invited by Greenland’s government. During the visit, Landry attended a business summit and participated in the opening ceremony of a new US consulate building in Nuuk. He also met local business leaders and political figures to discuss future cooperation. Greenland Rejects US Influence Over Health Plans An American doctor also joined Landry’s delegation. The doctor told local media he wanted to examine Greenland’s healthcare needs. This move quickly drew criticism from Greenland’s Health Minister, Anna Wangenheim, who called the situation “deeply problematic.” Earlier this year, Trump proposed sending a US hospital ship to Greenland, but Greenlandic leaders rejected the offer immediately. Greenland’s Foreign Minister, Mute Egede, warned that the United States still appears interested in gaining influence over the territory. He explained that Greenland has clear limits regarding its independence and sovereignty, while America’s position has also remained unchanged. Greenland Maintains Strong Position on Independence Despite the tension, Greenlandic officials described the meeting with Landry and US Ambassador Ken Howery as respectful and professional. Prime Minister Nielsen said discussions were held in a positive atmosphere, but he made it clear that Greenland would continue formal negotiations only through official diplomatic channels. The visit highlights the ongoing political struggle surrounding Greenland’s strategic importance in the Arctic region. While the United States wants stronger influence in the area, Greenland continues to defend its independence and right to self determination.

Iran says it has made progress in negotiations with the United States, but officials made it clear that a final agreement is still not close. The statement came after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that both sides could reach an understanding soon.

Talks Focus on Ceasefire and Strait of HormuzLeadership Challenges Delay NegotiationsOil Prices Fall as Markets React PositivelyShipping Industry Remains Careful

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai said many important issues had already been discussed and partly resolved. However, he stressed that no one should expect an immediate agreement. According to Iranian officials, several key matters still need more negotiation before any official deal can be signed.

Talks Focus on Ceasefire and Strait of Hormuz

Reports suggest the proposed understanding includes a 60 day extension of the ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and continuing talks about Iran’s nuclear programme. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes because nearly 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas passes through it.

US President Donald Trump recently hinted that both countries were moving closer to a deal. At the same time, he also said he instructed negotiators not to move too quickly during discussions.

Speaking in Delhi, Rubio said the US expected possible developments soon but added that talks with Iran were still taking time. He explained that communication delays on the Iranian side had slowed the process.

Leadership Challenges Delay Negotiations

According to reports from US media, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is currently staying in a secure undisclosed location after reportedly suffering injuries during an Israeli strike earlier in the conflict. The situation has reportedly made communication with Iranian negotiators more difficult.

Sources also claim the current proposal is only a temporary arrangement and not a complete peace agreement. Major issues remain unresolved, including sanctions relief, access to frozen Iranian assets, and restrictions linked to Iran’s nuclear activities.

Oil Prices Fall as Markets React Positively

Global oil prices dropped sharply after news of possible progress between Washington and Tehran. Asian stock markets also showed gains as investors hoped tensions in the Middle East could ease in the coming weeks.

Despite growing optimism, several Republican lawmakers criticised the possible agreement. Senator Ted Cruz called the reported plan a dangerous mistake, while Senator Lindsey Graham questioned whether the deal would strengthen Iran’s influence in the region.

Trump dismissed criticism from members of his own party and said any agreement with Iran would either become meaningful and successful or would not happen at all.

Shipping Industry Remains Careful

Experts say the global shipping industry may take months to fully recover even if both countries announce a deal soon. Shipping companies remain cautious because supply chains and trade routes in the region have faced major disruptions during the crisis.

Industry analysts believe businesses will wait for long term stability before making large operational changes in international shipping routes.

Previous Article Police Fire Warning Shots as Crowds Gather at DR Congo Ebola Treatment Centre Tensions rose in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo after police fired warning shots into the air to break up angry crowds outside an Ebola treatment centre in Mongwalu. Families reportedly tried to take back the bodies of relatives who had died from the deadly virus. Health officials said the unrest continued for several hours on Sunday. The treatment centre had already faced an overnight attack earlier in the weekend when unknown people set fire to an isolation tent inside the hospital compound. Families Demand Bodies of Victims According to hospital officials, several people gathered outside the medical facility demanding that authorities release the bodies of two Ebola victims to their families for burial. One of the victims was reportedly a respected Catholic religious leader known in the local community. Doctors warned that Ebola victims remain highly infectious after death. Traditional funeral practices and direct contact with bodies can quickly spread the virus to more people. Medical teams and Red Cross workers have been carrying out controlled burials under police protection to reduce the risk of further infections. Fear and Distrust Fuel Public Anger Many communities affected by the outbreak continue to distrust health authorities. Some residents question the real cause of deaths and remain skeptical about Ebola treatment measures. Earlier in the week, another violent incident took place in Rwampara, a town located southeast of Mongwalu. Protesters burned isolation tents after officials stopped them from removing the body of a suspected Ebola victim for a traditional burial ceremony. Health experts believe misinformation and fear are making it harder to control the outbreak. Ebola Cases Continue to Rise Officials say the current Ebola outbreak has now recorded more than 900 suspected cases and around 220 suspected deaths. The situation has raised concern across Central and East Africa. Red Cross officials also confirmed that three volunteers involved in handling dead bodies died from suspected Ebola infections. Their deaths highlight the dangers faced by frontline workers during the outbreak. Meanwhile, health ministers from Uganda, South Sudan, and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention recently agreed to strengthen cross border cooperation to help stop the virus from spreading into neighboring countries. Why Safe Burials Matter During Ebola Outbreaks Health experts say safe burials remain one of the most important steps in controlling Ebola outbreaks. The virus can survive in the bodies of victims after death, making funeral gatherings extremely risky. Authorities continue to urge families to cooperate with medical teams to protect communities and prevent more infections. Police Fire Warning Shots as Crowds Gather at DR Congo Ebola Treatment Centre
