A nearly forty-year-old biography of Clint Eastwood was recently borrowed by a library.
Students at John Bunyan Upper School (now Bedford Academy) checked out Gerald Cole and Peter Williams’ 1983 book “Clint Eastwood” from the Bedford Central Library in May 1986. Originally, it was a part of the Young People’s Library Service collection in the city.
Staff members at the Bedford Central Library in England reported that 13,762 days after the book was checked out, a member of the public who was not the borrower discovered it during a house clearance.
35 years later, Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” CD is brought back to the Maryland Library.
According to Bedford, Bedfordshire, England-based online newspaper Bedford Independent, the original borrower would have been fined £4,816.70 in late fees, or more than $6,110 in U.S. dollars, if the fees hadn’t been waived.
“It brightened our day to have this stranger return after almost 40 years! (In actuality, it was an old school library book, so the fine wasn’t even a large sum of money!)” on Facebook, the Bedford Central Library posted.
“We did a double take with this one, but we obviously get hundreds of books returned daily,” Anthony, a library assistant, told the Independent.
“Despite being borrowed nearly 38 years ago, the book is actually in great condition so it’s heartwarming that a library book has been so well cared for, even if it was borrowed a little while ago.”
British writers penned the unofficial biography of the “Dirty Harry” star, which was released in London.
