Pakistan’s elections on February 8 will be chaotic, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi warns.

Rawalpindi: Veteran politician and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi warned on Thursday that the country would descend into chaos as a result of the general elections scheduled for February 8, pointing to purported political manipulation in the elections.

Since this election has lost all meaning, it is the responsibility of the political leadership to give elections meaning. Speaking to the media outside the anti-corruption department office in Rawalpindi, Abbasi stated that the nation’s judicial, military, and political officials ought to gather together around a table and decide the country’s future course. He was at the office to be questioned about the embezzlement issue involving the Marri Road and Ghora Gali projects.

The former prime minister stated that since elections are a sacred ceremony, it would be detrimental to the nation to make them contentious. Pointing to purported election tampering, he said that the system was inoperable in 2018 and would not function going forward.

He claimed that the three major political parties in the nation had fallen short of expectations since none of them had the answers to the issues at hand. He also forecasted the creation of multiple political parties in Pakistan in the near future.

He stated he was no longer in politics, but in the elections. After the elections, he indicated, he would make a decision on starting a new political party.

Abbasi questioned who would be in charge of the National Accountability Board (NAB) and other anti-corruption organizations, which had emerged as the most dishonest in the nation.

People nowadays wonder, “If the globe is progressing, then why is Pakistan’s development graph declining? Every election since 1947 has been rigged. The electorate is dissatisfied with the election process. Make this procedure noncontroversial while there’s still time, he said.

The former premier said that in the embezzlement case against him, he was harassed as a politician during the election process by having his spokesperson receive the notice against him rather than him. He stated, “Imagine how someone who isn’t even running for office would be treated, compared to how someone running for office would be treated.”He claimed that it had been alleged that he had given his favorite people contracts to build two roads. He added that the department told him the roads weren’t even built when he asked.
