A joyful night of celebrations in northwestern Spain ended in tragedy after part of a historic fountain collapsed in Ciudad Rodrigo. The incident claimed the life of a 13 year old boy and left two other young people injured during celebrations following Spain’s World Cup victory.
Celebration Turns Into Tragedy
The accident happened shortly after midnight at the well known Árbol Gordo fountain in Ciudad Rodrigo, located in Salamanca province. A large crowd had gathered to celebrate Spain’s World Cup triumph.
According to local emergency officials, several people climbed onto the fountain during the celebrations. Moments later, part of the structure gave way, causing people to fall and trapping some beneath the debris.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene after receiving several distress calls. Police officers, firefighters, medical staff, and Civil Guard personnel responded quickly to provide assistance.
Boy Dies Despite Medical Efforts
Medical teams treated the injured at the scene before transporting them for further care. Sadly, a 13 year old boy later died after receiving treatment at a nearby health centre.
Two other young people suffered injuries during the collapse. One child was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg, while another person received treatment for less serious injuries.
Authorities also arranged psychological support for the victim’s family following the heartbreaking incident.
Investigation Underway
Officials have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Early reports suggest the structure failed after several people climbed onto the fountain during the celebrations.
Local authorities continue to examine the damaged fountain and review safety measures to prevent similar incidents during large public gatherings.

The town council expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying what should have been a night of national celebration became a heartbreaking tragedy for the community.

Instead of sharing space on large rockets that fly on fixed schedules, customers can book a launch tailored to their satellite and its required orbit - much like taking a taxi instead of waiting for a train. "If you want to just go to a friend's house, you don't need a train, you book a cab, an Uber. What we are offering is a cab service to space, which can be used to ride to a unique location in the orbit to place a satellite or visit a station."
