Why it matters The uncertainty could make the women’s US Open title race difficult to predict.

Top Seeds Face US Open Uncertainty

The 2026 US Open women’s field looks difficult to predict. The tournament features several strong players, but the leading seeds arrive in New York under very different circumstances.

Aryna Sabalenka holds the No. 1 seed. She hopes to win her third consecutive US Open title.

Her recent results, however, have raised questions. Sabalenka hasn’t reached a final since completing the Sunshine Double earlier this year.

That makes her title defense more difficult to assess.

Gauff and Swiatek Build Winning Momentum

Coco Gauff enters the tournament with growing confidence.

The 2023 US Open champion reached the semifinals in Toronto before winning the Cincinnati Open. Her serve also improved during the North American hard court swing.

Gauff is the No. 4 seed and should receive strong support from the New York crowd.

Jessica Pegula, the No. 3 seed, will also carry American hopes. The United States hasn’t had a woman reach a Grand Slam final during the first three majors of 2026.

The Polish star has struggled at the year’s major tournaments. She hasn’t reached a quarterfinal at any of the first three Grand Slams.

Swiatek is seeded No. 8 and will now look to carry her improved form into the US Open.

Other Contenders Ready to Challenge Favorites

The uncertainty around the leading seeds could create opportunities for other players.

Mirra Andreeva has already won her first major title at Roland Garros this year. Linda Noskova also enters with confidence after winning Wimbledon last month.

She defeated Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula during that run.

Osaka remains another major name in the draw. The Japanese star won the US Open in 2018 and 2020.

She also reached the semifinals last year after returning to top level tennis following her maternity leave.

US Open Title Race Set for Thrilling Battle

The US Open main draw begins Sunday in New York.

Sabalenka will attempt to defend her title and continue her run at the top of the rankings. Rybakina’s fitness will remain an important talking point.

Gauff and Swiatek will look to build on their recent success.

With several players entering the tournament in strong form, the women’s title race could remain open deep into the second week.

US Open Title Race Remains Wide Open

The 2026 US Open women’s field contains several serious title contenders. Sabalenka has history on her side, but recent results have created doubts about her form.

Gauff and Swiatek appear to be gaining momentum at the right time. Rybakina’s fitness adds another layer of uncertainty, while several younger players could also make a deep run.
