In communities where adequate formal schooling is still a far-off goal for the country’s youth, Punjab’s non-formal education (NFE) sector provides hundreds of thousands of out-of-school youngsters with a rare second shot at education and literacy.
The only distinct facility for non-formal education in Punjab is the Non-Formal Basic Education (NFBE) Department, which was established in 2002. The Ministry of School Education and Literacy is in charge of non-formal education in Sindh; the Ministry of Social Welfare is in charge of it in Balochistan; and the Ministry of Education is in charge of it in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training oversees the program on a federal level.
