According to the BBC, tech mogul Elon Musk’s brain-chip business Neuralink successfully implanted its first gadget in a human patient on Sunday. The patient is currently making a full recovery.

Musk has stated that the initial results, which include successful neuron spike identification, are encouraging on the social media platform X.

Neurons are cells that send information throughout the body and within the brain using chemical and electrical signals.

For the firm, which aims to assist patients in overcoming paralysis and other neurological problems, this is a significant turning point.

Neuralink received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to carry out its first human experiment last year. The business declared in September that it had been given permission to begin recruiting for the aforementioned experiment.

Neuralink states that in order to enable humans to control a computer cursor or keyboard with their thoughts, a brain-computer interface (BCI) implanted in the brain’s movement control region is being studied using a robot.

According to Neuralink, the participants’ brains receive messages through “ultra-fine threads” in the implants.

Elon Musk said in a different post on X that Telepathy will be the name of Neuralink’s initial product.

In order to assess the safety of the implant and surgical robot, the business is conducting a study for its wireless brain-computer interface called PRIME Study.

The business has been under pressure to examine its safety procedures. According to Reuters, the business was penalized earlier this month for breaking hazardous material transportation regulations set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).
