In light of the escalating political climate leading up to the February 8 election, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari launched a new attack on Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday, denouncing the latter for fabricating a storyline that suggested its leader Nawaz Sharif would make a fourth trip back to the Prime Minister’s Mansion.

Speaking to a political assembly in Dera Ismail Khan, Bilawal emphasized that the PPP and PML-N, who represent the arrow and lion, respectively, will be competing in the next elections.

It appears from the PML-N that Nawaz will make a fourth attempt at leading the nation as prime minister.

“Do [people] wish to see politics of hate continue?” As he questioned whether the public wanted to see the same individual rule the nation once more as premier, the PPP leader stated. With the province’s share of the National Assembly and consequent importance in forming the central government, his party has arguably emerged as a major rival of the PML-N in its stronghold of Punjab. In anticipation of the polls, the province has become a hive of political activity.

After the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), founded by Imran Khan, essentially withdrew from the election race and lost its election symbol (the “bat”), there has been a marked increase in the verbal sparring between the once-close allies as they both attempt to win over voters and gain support in order to maintain their political positions in the crucial province.

Former president and PPP co-chair Asif Ali Zardari stated the party’s intention to fortify itself in Punjab one day before.

Continuing his speech, Bilawal restated the PPP’s slogan, pledging to supply 3 million residences, 300 units of free energy, and quadruple salaries if the party is elected on February 8. These are all important components of the party’s election manifesto.
