Maldives prosecutor general stabbed in Male after violent events

Maldives' opposition parties came out against current regime over its "stark" anti-India pivot

Local media stated that on Wednesday morning, miscreants in the capital city of Male viciously stabbed prosecutor general Hussain Shameem of the Maldives.

The attack was not carried out with a sharp item, according to sources from the police. It coincides with a major political impasse between the opposition and the Maldivian government.

The goal of the opposition is to remove President Mohamed Muizzu from office.

Violence broke out in the Maldives Parliament recently as a result of government Members of Parliament (MPs) provoking trouble during a critical vote on the approval of the Muizzu government, according to The Hindustan Times.

Prior to this, the present Maldivian government was criticized by two opposition parties for its “stark” anti-Indian turn.

A recent change in foreign policy has been criticized by The Democrats and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) as being “extremely detrimental” to the long-term prosperity of the nation.

The opposition argues that it will be “detrimental” to the nation’s long-term progress to alienate any “development partner,” especially its steadfast ally.

“Stability and security in the Indian Ocean is vital to the stability and security of the Maldives,” the opposition emphasized once more.

The MDP and the Democrats emphasized how important it is for next administrations to continue being able “to work with all development partners for the benefit of the people of the Maldives, as the Maldives has traditionally done”.

The attorney general’s office has filed a complaint on an amendment with the Supreme Court, according to a report from the Maldives Sun.In November, seven MPs left the Parliament to take on leadership roles in Mohamed Muizzu’s government.
