It was revealed on Friday that Justice Shahid Jamil Khan, a judge on the Lahore High Court (LHC), has resigned, claiming personal reasons.
President Arif Alvi has received the resignation letter from the LHC judge. He planned to become chief justice in the future and was scheduled to retire in 2029.
Shahid Jamil Khan, a judge at the Lahore High Court in Lahore for approximately ten years, submitted his resignation letter, stating that he was resigning immediately in accordance with Article 206(1) of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973.
“Holding the office was an absolute honor, but I have decided to start a new chapter and turn the page due to personal circumstances,” he continued.
In her retirement letter, the departing judge also referenced the adage, “An ounce of discretion is worth a pound of wit.”
Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, two Supreme Court judges, resigned from their positions last month.
Ahsan, the third-most senior judge on the Supreme Court, informed President Alvi in his resignation that he wanted to step down from his position as a judge on the court.
Just two days had passed since Justice Sayyed Naqvi resigned from his position due to the supreme court’s refusal to grant a stay of the Supreme Judicial Council’s (SJC) proceedings against him until the case had been heard on its merits.
On October 27, of last year, the SJC sent Justice Mazahar a show-cause notice in response to multiple charges that the SC judge had engaged in financial wrongdoing and bench manipulation.
The sudden deaths of the senior judges had led to a great deal of conjecture.
According to observers, both justices were “close” to former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and had a hand in making contentious rulings.
The divisions among the justices of the supreme court became apparent while Bandial presided over the court. When CJP Isa took over, this trend stopped, but the harm was already done.
