With just two days remaining before the elections and political parties attempting to win over as many people as possible, senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz, has pledged the “highest development” should the party be elected into power.

“If the city chooses lion, [we] promise the highest development in Murree,” Maryam declared on Monday at a political rally in the city.

Her comments coincide with the reality that the PML-N and the majority of other major political parties have built their election campaigns on socioeconomic improvement in light of the catastrophic economic conditions that are currently in place due to a declining local currency, diminishing foreign exchange reserves, and other causes.

Both the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the PML-N, which have become the former’s main rivals in Punjab, the largest province in the nation, have been aggressively promoting their “economic agenda” in an effort to win over the populace who have been bearing the brunt of extremely high and rising inflation.

Following up on the points made in the party’s “Pakistan ko Nawaz do” election manifesto, Maryam, the leader of the campaign and candidate running in her maiden general election from the NA-119 and PP-159 constituencies, emphasized that decisions made now will determine the course of the next generation.

The veteran PML-N member’s comments coincide with the party’s manifesto, which calls for a 20–30% reduction in electricity costs, a 6% GDP growth goal, $60 billion in exports, $40 billion in remittances, and a lower level to 25% from 38% if five years.

The scion of the Sharif family, who expressed amazement at the size of the gathering in the hill station despite the bad weather, urged the audience to stamp on the lion, the PML-N’s iconic electoral emblem, to get their problems fixed. She also vowed to end the people of Murree’s woes.

She continued, saying, “We had decided to ease the difficulties of Murree’s people by serving them day and night.” She also stated that the mafias associated with possession and timber must be driven out of the city.
