ISLAMABAD: Citing the regrettable passing of the candidates, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to postpone the general elections in four national and provincial assembly constituencies.
According to the information provided, postponed elections affect one national seat and the remaining provincial seats in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, namely NA-8 Bajaur, PK-22 Bajaur, PK-91 Kohat, and PP-266.
Following the assassination of independent candidate Rehan Zeb Khan, who was standing for both the provincial assembly constituency PK-22 in Bajaur-IV and the National Assembly constituency NA-08, the ECP decided to call off the elections.
In addition, Kohat-II, NA-91, elections were rescheduled after Asmat Ullah Khan’s demise.
The ECP has delayed the Punjab Assembly election in the wake of the passing of Israr Hussain, son of Talib Hussain and candidate for constituency PP-266 (Rahim Yar Khan XII).
The ECP spokesman issued a statement stating that the general election processes in the designated constituencies have been suddenly terminated, in accordance with the authority granted to the relevant returning officers (ROs) under Section 73 of the Election Act, 2017.
Once the updated schedule for these locations is made public, the remaining contenders won’t have to file new nomination papers or pay additional fees, according to the election authority.
