In her historic criminal trial, a Michigan jury on Tuesday found Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of Oxford High School gunman Ethan Crumbley, guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter.
Four counts of involuntary manslaughter were brought against Jennifer and her husband James Crumbley in relation to the incident that occurred on November 30, 2021, and left four students dead and seven injured. On April 9, Jennifer will receive her sentence.
James Crumbley has a separate trial. In American history, the Crumbleys are the first parents to be tried for a mass shooting at a school.
Jennifer Crumbley said, “As a parent, you spend your whole life trying to protect your child from other dangers,” in response to concerns posed by the defense on Thursday while testifying. You never would have imagined that you would have to keep your kids safe from hurting other people. That’s what really amazed me. The fact that my child injured and killed other people was the toughest thing I could have endured.”

Her defense team contended that she shouldn’t be held responsible for Ethan’s conduct because she was unaware that her son was plotting a school massacre.
The prosecution countered that Ethan, who was 15 at the time, used the gun his parents supposedly bought him as a gift to carry out the shooting despite his repeated pleas for assistance.
