The filmmaker of Dawn of the Nuggets talks to Sky News about his intentions to make a Chicken Run trilogy, Bella Ramsey’s “brilliance,” and the reason he won’t ever eat another nugget.
Director Sam Fell acknowledges, in an interview with Sky News, that “you send it out into the world and it’s like a kid really, you hope everyone is going to treat it nicely.”
In addition to becoming a global hit with audiences of all ages, the animation is nominated for a BAFTA later this month.
It has been a vindication for Fell, who made news before a single scene of the movie was shot when he chose to replace Mel Gibson and Julia Sawalha with Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi to play Rocky and Ginger.
He acknowledges that the response “surprised” him. “I didn’t anticipate any ruffled feathers. Looking back, though, I guess you’re gonna have to crack a few eggs to make a fresh omelette “, he remarked.
Fell clarified that “who’s around now, not age in particular, but more to do with the time gap” was the reason behind the cast reshuffle.
Considering the movie more of a “reboot” than a sequel, he continued, saying that you had to be daring and just go with what you believed was right.
