After nine years in the role, Sir Kenneth Branagh is stepping down, and Harewood, who has been in Homeland and Supergirl, will take over.
Vice president will be Cynthia Erivo, who starred in the most recent Wicked movie.
A “delighted” guy, Harewood expressed his anticipation of “influencing so many young and talented individuals” at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
The actor, who was born in Birmingham, continued, saying, “I feel I am ideally placed to help these young people navigate the sometimes difficult path from students to professionals, by bringing all the knowledge I have gained from my time as a former student at Rada and from having experienced both the highs and lows of this industry.”
Former Rada student Erivo expressed her excitement and her “acute awareness of how important a strong support system is.”
More time spent “helping them along their path, to their careers in the outside world” is something she was eager to share with the kids, she continued.
Later this year, the Tony Award-winning actress will play Elphaba in the Wicked movie.
Sir Kenneth declared that welcoming the talented David Harewood and Cynthia Erivo to their new jobs was “a thrill” and that it had “been a privilege to serve Rada.”
Rada is one of the UK’s oldest drama schools, having been established in 1904.
