According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman, if the establishment considers the February 8 elections to be fair, the “narrative” of May 9 has been “buried” — as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidates got the most seats in the National Assembly.
PTI staffers and leaders were hauled up after Imran Khan, the party’s founder, was arrested in a graft case on May 9. During the virtually nationwide protests, miscreants targeted civic and military installations such as Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The military declared May 9 “Black Day” and vowed to try the demonstrators under the Army Act.
Following the unusual episode, there was a mass evacuation, and the party later suffered multiple setbacks. However, the PTI-affiliated candidates emerged victorious despite scepticism.
