Moreover, two benches have been established for the Karachi division. Bench one will comprise Justice Muhammad Kareem Khan Agha, and bench two will comprise Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry.
KARACHI: Following the instruction of Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) would grant students of Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, and General Science Part-I additional marks of up to 15% in their exams.

The Sindh interim Chief Minister said this while confirming the recommendations of a fact-finding committee created to study the exceptionally low grades received by Intermediate Part-I students this year.

The committee submitted its report to the chief minister, who ordered that BIEK, who was in charge of the IT sector, be dismissed from his position.

The CM stated that based on the committee’s suggestion, pre-engineering, pre-medical, and general science students will receive up to 15% more marks.

Moreover, two benches have been established for the Karachi division. Bench one will comprise Justice Muhammad Kareem Khan Agha, and bench two will comprise Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry.
“It has been decided that all the students would be given 15 extra marks in Maths, 12 in Physics, Chemistry and Statistics each and six in Zoology and Botany each,” he added.

The committee directed that paper designs and a marking scheme be developed prior to the start of the school year. It said that the paper pattern and marking scheme would be implemented for three years.

The Sindh Chief Minister decided that 10 paper inspection centers be established in the capital. He also stated that the MCQ papers should be verified using an optical mark recognition technology to ensure that there are no errors.

Moreover, two benches have been established for the Karachi division. Bench one will comprise Justice Muhammad Kareem Khan Agha, and bench two will comprise Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry.
“The controller of examinations, all deputy controllers and the IT manager are responsible for conducting the examinations in 2023,” added the official.

He also stated that notices should be issued against board officers who violate the norms and regulations.

On January 23, the BIEK announced the Part-I (first year) exam results, which revealed a significant fall in student performance.

The figures showed that 80% of candidates failed in Arts (Regular), 72% in Arts (Private), and 63% in Commerce (Private).

Earlier in the results, just 36.51% of candidates were successful in the Pre-Medical, 34.79% in the Pre-Engineering, and 38.69% in the Computer Science categories.

Most students who passed their matriculation examinations with lower marks faced possible obstacles in obtaining admission.
