RAJKOT: After setting a lofty target for England, India easily defeated the visitors for 122 runs in the third Test to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series on Sunday.
From taking a commanding first-inning lead of 126 runs, India had been in complete control and never let up at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
Before India declared their second innings at 430-4, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed an undefeated 214, Shubman Gill produced 91, and debutant Sarfaraz Khan hit his second fifty of the game.
After Jaiswal struck 209 in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, he tied Wasim Akram’s record of hitting 12 sixes in an innings.
England, chasing an unlikely 557 to win, collapsed to 50-7 as Ravindra Jadeja (5-41) destroyed their middle order.
The match was basically over when England skipper Ben Stokes was removed by Kuldeep Yadav for a leg before wicket (15).
India achieved their highest Test victory in terms of runs scored, with Mark Wood scoring a blistering 33 before being the final England batsman to be removed.
Home captain Rohit Sharma stated, “England played well and put us under pressure, but we have class bowlers and the message was to stay calm.” “I’m really proud of how we came back, even though it is easy to stray from what you do as a team.”
India defeats England by 434 runs following a double century from Jaiswal.
