The PML-N chief is concerned about a repeat of the May 9 incident in Pakistan.

Malik Ahmad Khan says Rawalpindi commissioner should have shown evidence of rigging if he had any

LAHORE: Malik Ahmad Khan, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said on Sunday that the government should put a stop to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) before another May 9 tragedy occurs in the country.

Malik’s statements came just a day after former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha admitted rigging and resigned.

On the other hand, the PTI and other parties have been protesting the alleged manipulation of the February 8 elections, with the previous ruling party claiming that its mandate was stolen.

“Another May 9 will occur on Pakistan’s infrastructure. They [the PTI] must be stopped or they will bring significant damage to the state of Pakistan. There isn’t an occurrence as awful as May 9 in my memory,” stated Malik.

While speaking at a press conference in Lahore, accompanied by PML-N leaders Azma Bukhari and Attaullah Tarar.

Recalling the tragedy, the PML-N leader stated that the PTI, created by Imran Khan, conspired against the state and the Pakistan Army, and that they had not learned any lessons from the May 9, incident.

Malik stated that a campaign is being run from PTI accounts, and that the propaganda is not being shared without reason. “This is a continuation of the same conspiracy that we have been seeing before,” he said.

He claimed that the PTI has launched another “scary” campaign by posting images of numerous DROs and their children on social media. “These people are not stopping their anarchic behaviour at all,” he said.

“They are [now] threatening government employees,” he said.

The PML-N leader remarked this while urging the caretaker prime minister and Punjab chief minister to play their roles in this matter.

“This is a repetition of the May 9 [riots],” he said.

Claiming that photos of district returning officers’ (DROs) families are being exploited to incite hatred, the politician urged Chatha to provide appropriate documentation to back up his claims.

“This is a May 9 part two and a plan to create chaos in the country,” he went on to say.

Speaking about the elections and claims made by the PTI, Malik stated that the PTI has a history of refusing to accept defeat.

The politician also said that the previous Rawalpindi commissioner had nothing to do with the electoral process.

“The commissioner is neither a DRO (district returning officer) nor does he hold any position in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP),” Malik stated, noting that the DRO and RO are overseen by the ECP.

Malik stated that the commissioner would have presented proof if he had any. “He spoke without evidence.”
