Speaking during the session of the Senate, she said: “The Peoples Party has always had a principled stance against the death penalty, whether public or private.”

“While the PPP staunchly condemns rape as a heinous and grave crime, calling for the death penalty or public executions, as seen in various countries, have not proven to be effective in deterring sexual crimes. We must prioritise enhancing prosecutions and investigations rather than resorting to barbarism and violence within society.”
ISLAMABAD: As political groups, particularly Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), protest alleged cheating in the February 8 elections, President Arif Alvi has called for respect for the people’s mandate and more political inclusion.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Monday, the president stated that financial inclusion is impossible without public participation in the political process.

He also praised the “millions of young voters” for having faith in the country’s political system.

“If the youth’s confidence in the system is shaken, it will not be in the country’s interest,” the president said, regretting that capable individuals are being “forced out of politics”.

President Alvi further warned that isolating people from the development process could have serious consequences.

Concerned about the delayed decision-making and lack of leadership in the country, the president stated that Pakistan needs good leadership and timely decision-making to set it on the path of progress and prosperity.

“Development and prosperity require good leadership and timely decision-making,” remarked President Barack Obama.

President Avli stated that technology might have been used to offer foreign Pakistanis the ability to vote through internet voting (i-voting) and to improve the electoral process using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

He was disappointed that i-voting and EVMs could not be implemented due to vested interests.

He also commented on the suspension of social media site X services in the country, stating the blockage of social media websites in Pakistan was due to the lack.
