Haaland reacted forcefully after squandering numerous opportunities in Saturday’s draw with Chelsea, scoring the game’s winning goal in the 71st minute against Brentford to take City into second place in the standings, only one point behind leaders Liverpool.
Days had passed since Haaland’s grandmother passed away before the Chelsea loss, and City boss Guardiola used the post-match moment to share his feelings on the media and other critics of late.
“With top scorers or strikers who score a lot of goals, don’t criticise because he will shut your mouth, that’s for sure,” Guardiola stated. “He is there sooner or later.
“He’s not at his best and missed two months of work due to an injury. He recently had a really difficult week because his grandmother passed away. That is difficult for a person to do.”
When asked what he thought was wrong with being a journalist after declaring he had no desire to become one, Guardiola responded sharply and quickly.
“I am the manager,” he declared. “My life is better than yours.”
Kevin de Bruyne, a playmaker for Belgium, has a hamstring problem, according to Guardiola, who has already missed five months of the season.
“Today we could not use Kevin because he had niggles in his hamstring and I didn’t want to take risk,” he stated.
