Stellantis said that although production at the Bedfordshire facility will be restricted in the beginning of next year, it will still produce five models for its brand.
On Thursday, Stellantis said that starting in 2025, the Bedfordshire facility will build “limited” numbers of electric vans for five of its group brands.
According to the statement, these would include both right- and left-hand drive variants of the Fiat Professional E-Scudo, Peugeot E-Expert, and Vauxhall Vivaro Electric.
The business also stated that Luton, which has been making vans for 92 years, will keep making some models with combustion engines.
“This is a further vote of confidence in the UK economy and exciting news that shows our plan for the auto industry is working,” said business minister Nusrat Ghani in response to the investment.
Stellantis’ declaration comes after Nissan declared in November of last year that it will spend £1.2 billion to construct two electric vehicle types at its Sunderland facility.
