Maryam Nawaz, the PML-N leader and Punjab’s chief minister-elect, has announced her resignation from the National Assembly’s NA-119 seat.
This move follows her nomination and subsequent decision to become Punjab’s chief minister, indicating a substantial shift in the province’s political scene.
Maryam Nawaz’s resignation from NA-119 Lahore III was confirmed by people close to her. Maryam Nawaz won this constituency by 83,855 votes over PTI-backed candidate Shehzad Farooq, who received 68,376 votes.
Other contenders for the seat included Muhammad Zaheer of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan and Iftikhar Shahid of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
In the 2018 general elections, PML-N’s Ali Pervaiz Malik won this constituency with 113,265 votes.
The overall population of this constituency is 916,577, with 520,829 registered voters. There are 277,172 males and 243,657 females.
