PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stated Tuesday that President Arif Alvi will face various lawsuits for violating the Constitution in the wake of the National Assembly (NA) session summons.

“I believe there will be two suits against President Arif Alvi for violating the Constitution. One for dissolving the NA following the vote of no confidence [against ex-prime minister Imran Khan] and another for failing to convene a NA session as mandated by the Constitution,” he told the reporters in Islamabad following the hearing on Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s death sentence.

His statements came a day after the NA Secretariat summoned the lower house’s maiden session on February 29, after President Alvi rejected a synopsis of summon the NA session on the 21st day after the general elections, as provisioned by Article 91(2) of the Constitution.

Alvi argued that the NA was incomplete without the granting of all reserved seats to political parties.

While the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has allotted reserved seats to political parties, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has not received a reserved quota since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent candidates joined the party.

However, the ECP stated that the issue of SIC reserved seats is “pending before the commission” and will be heard by the electoral body tomorrow, following today’s adjournment.
