Mercury once referred to Garden Lodge in Kensington, west London, as “his country house in central London.” It is located in a peaceful neighborhood in the borough.
Constructed in 1907 following the Neo-Georgian architectural style, the property boasts a double-height dining area, a fully mirrored dressing room, a bar, a library, and a Japanese-style garden complete with topiary and water features.
After purchasing the home in 1980, Mercury spent the following ten years remodeling it to include his own personal touch and international art collection.
When Mercury passed away at the age of 45 in 1991 due to problems associated with AIDS, he bequeathed the house to his closest friend Mary Austin. She would spend the next thirty years residing there.
