WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, has launched a new feature to make it easier to find previous messages.
This unique addition, known as the “search by date” tool, allows users to easily navigate to their favored past chats.
The update, which is available for both Android and iPhone users, adds a calendar interface to the app, allowing users to search for messages or media on specified dates. This function eliminates the time-consuming effort of manually reading through chat histories, particularly for long-term users with large message archives.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also announced the news on his WhatsApp channel, highlighting the company’s dedication to improving user ease and accessibility.
After picking the calendar icon, desired date, WhatsApp automatically directs users to messages exchanged on that particular day. This streamlines the search process, particularly beneficial for users seeking specific information or memories buried within their chat history.
The calendar functionality joins WhatsApp’s recent flurry of improvements, which include text style options such as strikethrough, bold, italic, and monospace. Furthermore, the platform has prioritized security advancements to provide a safe environment for its large user base.
However, amidst these developments, WhatsApp users on Android devices should be aware of a recent change in chat backups. Conversations can no longer be backed up for free on Google Drive because they now count against the user’s storage limit.
To use this new function, users simply open WhatsApp, select a chat, touch on the name of the person or group, and select the “Search” option. The calendar interface will then allow for seamless access to messages from the selected date.
